Editorial Standards

Editorial policy, research standards & corrections

How we research companies, score editorial profiles, use sources and correct information when a business or reader identifies an error.

Scores are editorial

Our 100-point scores are our own editorial assessments. They are not Google ratings, customer-review averages or claims that a company has been endorsed by a platform.

Sources are dated

We identify important source material and show update dates so readers can judge how current the information is.

No pay-to-rank promise

Payment should not determine ranking position. Advertising or commercial relationships, if introduced, should be clearly separated from editorial placement.

Corrections matter

If a factual claim is shown to be wrong or outdated, we aim to correct it and update the page rather than quietly leave inaccurate information in place.

What we evaluate

Our methodology considers evidence such as service specialization, business transparency, published guarantees or warranties, demonstrated project history, clarity of process, geographic fit, customer-facing information, and the amount of verifiable detail available to a buyer. Not every category uses the same weighting because choosing a local HVAC contractor is different from choosing a manufacturer that ships products nationally.

We avoid presenting an editorial score as a customer satisfaction rating. We also avoid inventing testimonials, review counts or awards. When we discuss public customer feedback, the source should be identifiable and the reader should be able to distinguish the source's rating from our own conclusions.

How company profiles are researched

  • Review the company's current public website and service information.
  • Check category competitors and independent directories where useful.
  • Separate confirmed facts from interpretation.
  • Identify meaningful strengths, limitations and who the company is best suited for.
  • Link the profile to broader comparison and buyer-guide context.

How to request a correction

Send the page URL, the exact statement you believe is incorrect, the corrected information and a source that supports the correction.

Updates and ranking changes

Companies change services, warranties, pricing, locations and availability. We may update facts or rankings when new information materially changes the comparison. An older article should not be treated as a permanent endorsement. Readers should verify time-sensitive details directly before signing a contract or placing an order.
